Ampersand Hand Kite

I found this cute little wooden ampersand at Walmart. $1!

I've seen hand-kites with ribbon wrapped around wooden rings. They're fun for kids to run with and twirl around. I thought it would be neat to use different shapes. This is also a cute way to store your ribbons! Just add a hook somewhere in your craft corner and hang it for all to see :-).

Supplies:
  • Crop-A-Dile II (Big Bite)
  • Ribbon (I used ribbon lenths of 2.5 yards, 8 pieces)
  • Scissors
  • Thin Wooden Letter or Symbol
  • Clear Nail Polish, Hair Spray, Fray Stop or Lit Candle
  • Paint (optional)

Use the Crop-A-Dile on the 1/8 inch hole setting. Look at your wooden piece. See how some parts of the piece have two pieces of wood pressed together? Do not try to cut through places with two layers! It will splinter and look terrible. I have the broken wooden butterfly wing to prove it :-(.

Choose where to make the holes. Press down slowly and carefully. If you want to paint, this is the time to do it!

Cut ribbon to whatever length you like! Thread length half-way through the holes and knot together. Seal ends of ribbon with clear nail polish, Fray-Stop, or hair spray. Or heat-seal the ends by holding them close to the flame of a lit candle.

DONE!
